What would you like other microfinance-interested people to know about you?
I have just returned from serving as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Niger, West Africa. I worked primarily with a community women's group, helping them improve their agriculture practices and sell fruit trees. It was an incredible experience!
Organization you represent
none
In a few words, please describe your interest in microfinance.
After seeing many failed development models and many non-profits with good intentions but bad execution, I realized that the best way to "help" is to provide more business opportunities for people in poor communities. I would like to work in microfinance (domestic or international) and gain the necessary knowledge and understanding of small business development to return to West Africa and create a lending institution.
What microfinance issues would you like to learn more about?
Which models are most successful, how microfinance institutions measure their success, what critiques there are of microfinance, and how to get involved!
Do you live in the Puget Sound region?
yes
Have you attended a WAM meeting?
no
